I have been cooking and baking a lot lately with my toddler and I cannot get over how much language is used so naturally in cooking!!!

Verbs: cutting, mixing, cracking, pouring, scooping, dumping, measuring
🌮🍕🥗🥘🍋🥦
Concepts: colors, half/whole, some/all/none, in/out, fast/slow, empty/full, shapes
🍯🍖🥬🥧🥙🍢🥚🍓
Adjectives: slimy, squishy, soft, hard, rough, smooth, hot, warm, cold
🥓🌯🍱🍫🍚🍪🍍🍌🍗
Nouns: all the ingredients and measuring/cooking tools you are using!! 🥄🍴🥣🍤🥒🍳🥩 .
Ask lots of questions, give them simple jobs, label what you are doing and what they are doing, describe the ingredients, use transitional/temporal words like first, then, next! .

Cooking & baking are a great way to learn new language and functional life-skills! It’s also a great sensory activity!!
