Sensory Play & Language Learning

Did you know there are thousands of nerve endings in your fingers?? .

These nerves pick up information about pressure, light touch, temperature, texture and even help process information about the the edges of objects for fast object identification.
This information is then sent to the brain to give information about size, shape, and texture. New research also shows that these nerves play a greater role than we originally thought in object identification πŸ‘πŸ» .
Sensory play helps our kids develop these nerves and their connection to the brain.
🧠 .
When we pair this neural development with verbal language used to describe these sensations we strengthen these neural connections even more!! Think about words like squishy, rough, hard, soft, bumpy, hot, cold, smooth...

Throughout the week we’ll be sharing different ideas for sensory play using all different parts of the body... not JUST hands! πŸ‘ƒπŸ»πŸ¦΅πŸ»πŸ’ͺπŸ»πŸ¦ΆπŸ»πŸ‘‚πŸ»πŸ‘…πŸ‘€ .
